I believe I am in the middle of the “static-dynamic continuum.” I still use a lot of text and web sites for content from the static end of the continuum; however I do use discussion boards, chat, and technological media such as PowerPoint to further develop learned concepts. With continued use of my newly learned media, such as blogs and wikis, I will move forward on my journey toward the dynamic end of the continuum. There are so many technologies that can be used in distance learning it will be a slow process. Fear of learning new technologies once I have become familiar with other technologies plays a major factor in how I adopt new technologies on the technology continuum. I also believe that I will always to continue to use both ends of the continuum, static and dynamic. I will continue to use the entire spectrum the static end for information and the dynamic end to develop a “deeper cognitive level.” (Moller, 2008, pg.1)

That is an awesome graphic representing the static/dynamic technologies. I found myself struggling with the placement of some of the tools because of the reason that you talked about. It is probably true for all of us that we will always continue to use both ends of the continuum, both static and dynamic. Even though we are living in a digital world, there will always be a need to visit text books and pen/paper in learning situations. Look at the students in Walden University. Books are still a necessary medium for the growth to happen in its deepest form. We learn about new software and hardware, and yet we still use text books as a sort of base to all of this.
ReplyDeleteI attended a technology conference on yesterday, and I am happy to report that everything presented was totally without text books. It will be a slow process because of the lack of funding (speaking about my school district where they dissolved yet another school on yesterday) not because of the lack of human capabilities. While walking around, I found myself thinking that it would be nice if Jerry Jones (Cowboys’ owner) or Mark Cuban (Mavericks’ owner) would make a donation to my school district that matched the contract salary of just one player. Wishful thinking!!! ~~C. Penny Penagraph
